About Before You Cart
We read the specs, the reviews and the fine print so you can decide before you cart.
Before You Cart publishes buying guides for people who want a straight answer before they spend money. We started with tablets because Amazon just replaced its whole Fire tablet line, and a lot of people suddenly have the same question: what do I buy now? Kitchen and home-office guides are next.
How we research
Our guides are research-based. For each product we read:
- The manufacturer’s announcement, spec sheet and developer documentation.
- Published reviews and hands-on reports from established outlets such as The Verge, Engadget, WIRED, CNET and TechRadar.
- The fine print that spec sheets bury: storage options, missing ports, accessory prices, software-update promises.
We don’t claim hands-on testing, and we never write as if we’d used something we haven’t. Every guide ends with a list of sources so you can check our work. When a detail can’t be verified, we leave it out or tell you it’s unconfirmed.
How we choose picks
We recommend what we think fits each type of buyer, including products from other brands and products we can’t earn a commission on. Commissions never decide a pick. If the honest answer is “keep the tablet you have,” we say that.
How we make money
When you buy through our Amazon links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Details are on our affiliate disclosure page.
Updates and corrections
Every guide shows the date it was last updated. Products change quickly, especially right after launch, so we revisit guides when full reviews, price changes or software updates arrive. If you spot a mistake, we want to fix it.
